I
have the best of two worlds. Spring, summer, and fall, I play with
The Cape Cod Slackers.
This great little three-piece band has a great following, and lots of good
gigs! A large number of our fans are downright fanatical, in fact! Our busy
season is the 12 weeks of summer. We gig in the spring, and fall, just not
as often, so I get the opportunity to freelance with a lot of local
Cape Cod bands during this period -- I get to play with other old geezers
like myself, and a lot of players half my age.
My
wife Marguerite and I head for Fort Myers Florida in December every year,
where I play with a lot of local musicians in Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral,
Bonita Springs, Naples, Sanibel, Captiva, yada, yada. Bill Zink (a.k.a.
Smokin Bill),
and Dave Richardson (a.k.a. Sundance Dave) who have both become my closest
friends -- and are both wonderful guitar players with totally different
styles -- work with me as much as possible.
For
several years there was actually a band called The Sundance Experiment
(named after Dave's 42-foot sailboat), that got together when I got
to Fort Myers every year and broke up for rest of the year when I left. Go
figure!!
Bill
Zink (whose very talented wife Tammy put this website together for me), and
I try to work together as much as possible. Bill keeps a ridiculously busy
schedule all year playing his solo act, so it's hard to slip in a lot of
duo, or band gigs, but we try! We four also share an occasional Mohito
and/or Corona and/or Jeager-Meister by the pool, or at any one of the many
fine establishments down there. Come to think of it... Ditto with Dave...
although usually aboard his aforementioned sailboat, which he charters daily
out of Fort Myers Beach.
I also do occasional gigs
with my old and dear friend, Mike Oakland. We both do the seasonal migration
thing between Cape Cod and Florida. We also seem to get busy separately --
both north and south -- and never seem to gig together quite enough.
Anyway, That's where you'll find me December through late April. But, the
only thing that remains the same is change...So stay tuned!!!
